The project will develop an annual six-month engagement targeting people from African descent and minority ethnic background and will create a platform for developing leadership and for mentoring. The pilot will recruit ten candidates who will have shown a positive drive, ambition and commitment to becoming a strong leader and advocate of African communities living in Scotland. These ten aspiring leaders will be expected to commit to becoming agents of change within their various communities using their learned skills to give back to the community through mentoring and motivating others in the community.
The project will actively target those who are more excluded and special consideration will be given to women and young people between the ages of 17 - 27. It will involve an initial training, presentation, and coaching engagement delivered over 3 months. This will then be followed by another 3 months of intensive shadowing and mentoring scheme with an assigned mentor chosen from the target industry. The final two weeks will focus on their chosen area within the community which may include, developing a business idea, a proof of concept, a community based activity, a community engagement activity, a campaign, a policy document or a public function.
